"Christian Families Will Serve the Lord"
“As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”
Joshua became the leader of the Children of Israel after Moses died. When Joshua became old and knew that he would soon die, he called all the people together and spoke to them. He warned them against the worship of idols. He told them that they should choose whom they would serve—idols or the Lord God. He said, “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” He meant that he and his family would worship the true God of heaven and earth.
For generations, parents have said with Joshua, “We will serve the Lord.” They have taught their children to love and obey the true God and to pray to Him. They have brought their children to Sunday school or a Christian day school where they have heard God’s Word. On Sundays they have taken their children to church to learn more of God’s Word.
Our Savior blesses these homes where parents and children together serve the Lord. Don’t forget to thank God every day for Christian homes. Always regard it as a precious blessing from the Lord. When children grow up and have their own homes, think of the words of Joshua and join with him, “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”
